My name is Michelle and I have been studying music at NCMACC ever since I was seven years old. This fall, I will be a freshman at UC Davis pursuing a major in East Asian Studies.
At NCMACC, I undertook studies in a wide range of musical instruments including piano, cello, Korean hour glass drums, and Samgomu, which is another form of Korean drum dancing. Through my participation in the youth musical chorus, I was able to gain exposure to Korean traditional dance and song. It also provided me with the opportunity to immerse myself in Korean culture, allowing me to become more knowledgeable about my heritage. NCMACC contributed at a substantial level to my growth and development not only as a musician, but also as a well-rounded individual with a well established sense of identity. It is not an exaggeration to say that I have acquired some of my most important skills here at NCMACC where I have fostered a life long love of music. It has also been a great experience sharing my passion for music while volunteering as an assistant in a group piano class. As I approach the end of my volunteer service and music education at NCMACC, I am overcome with reluctance on the thought that I will be leaving a place that has now almost become a second home. Although I will not pursue a career in music, I will undoubtedly return and forever maintain my relationship with NCMACC. I am very grateful and proud to have been involved in such an invaluable organization in our community.
